2009 Bayou Classic Performance
Greek Show & Battle of the Bands
"Step Through Time: A Black Movement Odyssey"
The BCFX Title Sponsors debut was an unforgettable journey through the history of rhythm and movement. This captivating performance seamlessly weaved together the rich tapestry of African tradition, the dynamic energy it birthed into modern Greek stepping, and the futuristic beats of Hip-Hop. From the ancient drum circles of Africa to the spirited stomp of fraternity and sorority bonds, and into the pulsating rhythms of urban streets, the performance cast takes you on a rhythmic odyssey that transcends time and space. Experience the power of dance as it evolves through history, uniting cultures, and forging connections that echo across generations. Step into the rhythm and let the journey begin!"
Background & Project Establishment: Black College Football Experience (BCFX) is a sports videogame centered on the culture of black college football. In 2007, Jacqueline Beauchamp, founder and CEO of Nerjyzed Entertainment, made an announcement to move her growing company from Dallas to Baton Rouge. "It felt right. It literally felt right," she told Business Today in a June 2009 interview. Nerjyzed debuted its premier product as the first sports video creation to feature teams from Historically Black Colleges and Universities. The game features nearly forty teams, bands, interactive halftime shows, and play-by-play commentary. By August of 2009, Nerjyzed completed the vetting stage to move full speed into its upcoming national tour by finalizing their decision of partnership for the game’s automated movement. Beauchamp and her board hired Avery D. Wilson, CEO of MOKA Cheerleading and Dance Association, another Baton Rouge-based company specializing in spirit auxiliaries with origins deeply rooted in the HBCU tradition.
